What Is Thread Count?

For those unfamiliar, thread count is the number of threads per square inch of fabric.

Generally speaking, higher thread count fabrics feel softer, denser and warmer.

Does a Higher Thread Count Always Mean Better Bedding?

See, higher thread count is not necessarily synonymous with higher-quality sheets. The unfortunate truth about high thread counts is that many manufacturers will cut corners to keep their thread count number high but keep the cost down. The US organisation Consumer Reports did an excellent exposé explaining this in more detail.

For example some will use coarser yarns resulting in thicker, overbearing sheets or some create multi-ply yarns consisting of two or more threads joined together before weaving. This allows them to technically count each ply as an individual thread, allowing manufacturers to double or triple their “magic” thread count number, despite the final fabric being of a weaker, lower quality condition.

Sneaky buggers.

We cottoned on to this quickly and rather than perpetuate this cunning, deceitful trick, we want consumers to cotton onto it too.
